Interesting that you say you hate round robin play. For me, your first couple of podcasts, and joining a round robin group were the two things that got me out of my head, refocused on playing in the zone rather than trying to win. My group is super competitive, but in a "play my best" way rather than a "how many games did I win" way. I absolutely love it, and look forward to Wednesday afternoons - even though it is a 75 minute drive each way.
hey Deb, hate is such a strong word, but I am a writer so I exaggerate often! In most of the RR’s where you switch partners every game I have typically been the stronger partner. So it is challenging to watch my partners getting picked on while trying to negotiate helping them out :)
Understood. That would be less fun. I think the reason our group works so well is that most of us are around the same level - people that are much stronger or weaker self select out.
